Nike’s 2021 Chinese New Year Collection is Wild

As we bid farewell to the worst year ever, Nike’s 2021 Chinese New Year collection looks set to outdo itself.

The collection is a yearly tradition, giving sneakerheads the opportunity to pick up unique, limited-edition pieces inspired by traditional Chinese design. This year is no exception, and we’re big fans of the “Year of the Ox” look.

The collection features a range of lifestyle and performance sneakers, including the Air Max 2090, Dunk Low, Kyrie 7, SuperRep 2 and Blazer Mid. There are also four Jordans in the mix — the Jordan 1 and Jordan 5 Lows, as well as the Jordan 35 and Jordan Delta Breathe.

Also dropping are a set of exclusive women’s styles, including the Dunk Low Disrupt, Air Max Verona, Blazer Rebel, SuperRep Groove, and Escape Run. The collection also features three patchwork-covered Converse Chuck 70s.

The inspiration for this year’s collection came from “temple fairs” — traditional folk events where people gather together to watch fireworks, see performances, and eat seasonal treats. The colors and material choices for the shoes reflect three themes that capture the spirit of the new year — explosive firecrackers, decorative golden knots, and spring blossoms.

Last year’s inspiration was the art of Yuxian paper-cutting.

The standout product is the Air Jordan 1 Low “CNY” (pictured up top). The shoe perfectly epitomizes the collection, blending the classic Jordan-associated black and red with ox-themed embroidery and a golden knotted tassel. The same embroidery style is incorporated into the shoes’ decorative packaging.
