Classic Chinese Cartoon Characters Nezha and Sun Wukong Lead Awesome New Winter Sports Video

0

After Beijing unveiled its Winter Olympics 2022 mascots to awws, shrugs, and head scratches late last month, Shanghai Animation Film Studio has just released a video that shows Shuey Rhon Rhon and Bing Dwen Dwen how it’s done.

The minute-and-a-half clip features some of the Studio’s most iconic creations — including its much-loved interpretations of Monkey King Sun Wukong and mischievous god-child Nezha — trying their hands at a range of winter sports in the hopes of drumming up excitement about the forthcoming games.

Nezha, of course, got a makeover this summer courtesy of China’s biggest-ever animated film, but in this case its the Shanghai Animation Film Studios’ 1979 version that gets a run out, indulging in a spot of figure skating as other classic characters from Chinese animation history showcase events such as the bobsled, skiing, and ice hockey.

It’s well worth 94 seconds of your time — check it out below:

Beijing will become the first city to host both the Summer and Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2022, despite concerns over the amount of snowfall the city and surrounding area receives. Since China’s Winter Games bid was announced, there has been a gradual ramping up of promotional campaigns surrounding winter sports in the country — something which will no doubt continue as Beijing 2022 approaches.
